SWWIM sustains and celebrates women poets by connecting creatives across generations and by curating a living archive of contemporary poetry, while solidifying Miami as a nexus for the literary arts.

portrait of the artist as a squirrel

It gets dark early and dark

gnaws. Like the furred squirrel

of my mind, coiled and crouching,

with its jagged tail less shadow than

once half-gnawed, darting and

shivering with senseless pauses,

startled still in front of the barreling

trash truck — should’ve should’ve—

freezing in front of the black

dog’s open jaws.
